Fall Redfish Fishing Report – Venice Louisiana

Region: Mississippi River - South

Fall redfish fishing is in full swing around Venice, Louisiana, and the next several months bring some of our favorite inshore fishing opportunities of the year. September is an exciting time for redfish around the lower Mississippi River Delta. Redfish feed heavily as they prepare for their fall spawning period, and large bull reds can often be found feeding aggressively in schools. When we locate these groups of big fish, the action can be fast. At the same time, slot-sized redfish can be caught throughout much of the marsh near the end of the Mississippi River. October brings a change in the pattern. As redfish return from spawning, they begin feeding heavily, and pogeys are one of the major food sources we look for. Schools of menhaden along the beaches and outer marsh shorelines can attract hungry redfish. We also target fish around jetties, passes and nearshore structure when bait and current conditions line up. November continues to produce excellent redfish fishing. Many bull reds remain in the area, while falling water temperatures and lower Mississippi River conditions can concentrate good numbers of slot-sized redfish near the river and surrounding marsh.
